Welcome to Altura Gardens and Wildlife Park

Altura Park is situated amongst limestone formations just 4 kms from the famous Waitomo Caves. The Park was first opened to the public in 2000. More about us here.

After a friendly greeting as you enter the park from Baby the Barraband parrot, you can then mingle and interact with the friendly ducks, emus, deer, chooks, goats, rabbits, donkeys, mini horses, guinea pigs, blue tongued lizard and more.

There is loads of room for picnics, weddings, birthday parties, family and friends getting together etc. There are pony rides for children on our ponies Honey and Muffin N Spice and a great playground.

Other birds and animals in the park include a bison, Scottish Highland cattle, llama, ostrich, a fantastic selection of pheasants and parrots, turtle, goats, swans and peacocks. Visitors can also venture inside the large landscaped nocturnal Owl house.

We have many different varieties of friendly birds and animals in our 20 acre wildlife park. There is loads of interaction and feeding of the birds and animals. You can see some of the animals in the Picture Gallery.

Snacks and refreshments are available.  Morning, afternoon teas and picnic lunches can be provided by prior arrangement for group bookings.  We also have crafts and souvenirs.
